It appears that the newspaper was referring to the total solar eclipse that occurred on March 7, 1970, and a repeat of which, as predicted by it, will be seen on April 08, 2024.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon comes in between the Sun and Earth and completely blocks the face of the Sun. This darkens the sky and the day appears like dusk for some time. Total solar eclipses are rare compared to partial or annular solar eclipses.
The next total solar eclipse will be on August 12, 2026. It will be visible from Greenland, Iceland, and the Atlantic Ocean, according to Space.com.
"The total solar eclipse won't be visible again in North America until 2033 in Alaska, and not until 2044 in parts of Western Canada, Montana, and North Dakota", NASA said.
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk.
The path of the eclipse continues from Mexico, entering the United States in Texas, and traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse.
The eclipse will enter Canada in Southern Ontario, and continue through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Cape Breton. The eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NDT, according to NASA.
The Total Solar Eclipse on April 08, 2024 will not be visible in India.
The April 2024 solar eclipse will occur exactly six years, seven months, and 18 days after a similar celestial event graced the skies over the United States. Back on August 21, 2017, a solar eclipse traversed the nation from Oregon to South Carolina, captivating millions of onlookers.
