New Delhi: Indians across the country on Saturday August 15, 2026 celebrated the 80th Independence Day with traditional fervor.
PM Modi Independence Day Speech
The Independence Day Celebrations in India Saturday was led by PM Narendra Modi, who unfortunately again used his Independence Day Speech delivered from the Mughal Era Red Fort to abuse the previous governments and undermine their achievements.
In more than 76-minute speech, PM Modi while highlighting the "work done" by his government in the last 12 years repeatedly claimed that nothing substantial was done before 2014.
At the same time PM Modi tried to connect with the Gen Z and youth of India, who are protesting in different parts of India since May this year, but failed as his promises and claims have been taken as mere rhetoric.
As always, PM Modi's ID Speech again sparked a controversy this time over his use of the term "Naxali Mindset".
"“People with Maoist and Naxali mindset had infiltrated the previous governments. Our government has defeated the Naxalites active in jungles. The time is now to identify and isolate the people who are of Maoist and Naxali mindset”, he said.

Kharge, Rahul Skip Red Fort ID Event
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi skipped the Independence Day function at Red Fort Saturday for the second consecutive year in a row. No official statement was issued by the party to explain the reason behind their absence.
The two leaders, however, celebrated the 80th Independence Day at Indira Bhawan - the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Headquarters in New Delhi, along with Sonia Gandhi and other party leaders.
"Our freedom fighters did not just dream of freedom from British rule, but also from poverty, unemployment, untouchability, injustice, and fear. We want such a Hindustan—where the voices of the poor are heard, farmers move forward with dignity, youth fulfill their dreams, and no one fears speaking the truth in front of those in power", Congress President Kharge said while addressing the Party workers gathered on the occasion.
The two leaders also extended their greetings to all citizens by paying tribute to the country's freedom fighters on social media.
Independence Day Celebrations across India
The 80th Independence Day was also celebrated across India with Governors and Chief Ministers hoisting the Indian Tricolor in various state capitals.
District Magistrates, Prant Officers, Additional Collectors, and Deputy Collectors at various district headquarters hoisted the National Flag to mark the Independence Day.
Political parties celebrated the Independence Day by hoisting the National Flag at their respective offices and distributing sweets. In schools and colleges across India special programmes were organized to mark the occasion.
