London: Indian Muslim Federation (UK) congratulated the Indian National Congress Party and its allies as UPA for decisive victory in General Election 2009 to provide stable government in India. It also gives a clear verdict of the defeat of Hindutva fascism propagated by BJP and its allies as NDA.

IMF (UK) President Mr Agha said “While welcoming the Indian people’s decisive verdict against the BJP led NDA, we would like to note that only 28 Muslims have been elected to the 15^th Lok Sabha, whereas according to their share in population they could have expected 72 MPs. The present percentage representation of Muslims is the lowest ever in Lok Sabha (Upper House) of India since the independence.”

“Having come in the wake of Sachar Committee’s report, which has pointed out under representation of Muslims in legislatures and other decision making bodies as one of the sources of their deprivation and backwardness, there is a need to address this issue by the secular parties as well as Muslims in India to take more representation in Indian political system”, Mr Agha said.

Mr Shamsuddin Agha, President of Indian Muslim Federation (UK) has congratulated Mrs Sonia Gandhi being re-elected as UPA Leader, Dr Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister and Mr Rahul Gandhi for success in recent election. A letter of congratulations on behalf of all members of IMF(UK) and British Muslims have sent to them.
