'Bollywood, Media work to distort image of the Indian Muslims'

The price of being kin of 'A Terrorist'

Guwahati: A group of senior citizen-journalists have appealed to the people of Assam to join in a protest rally scheduled today on October 15 against the violent activities endorsed by all armed groups of Northeast India and also condemned the state government for its irresponsible attitude towards the Bhimajuli massacre and victims. The protest meet and procession will start at 11 am from in front of the Guwahati Press Club.

The appeal, signed by DN Bezboruah (former editor The Sentinel and former chairman of Editors’ Guild of India), DN Chakrabarty (former editor of Dainik Asom, Ajir Batori and Natun Dainik), Nirupama Borgohain (academy award winner littérateur and columnist) TG Baruah (chairman of The Assam Tribune group of newspapers) with Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Baruah, Mihir Deuri, Ranen K Goswami, Pramod Kalita, Sabita Lahkar, Mukul Kalita, Nava Thakuria, argue that the armed cadres of the region have lost their human values attacking children for their vested interest and hence they should be dealt with power.

On the other hand, even after knowing that the residents of Bhimajuli in Sonitpur district of Assam had decided not to pay extortion money to militants in a public meeting, the authority simply surrendered to the gun tooting youths of the banned organization and it turned a blind eye to the development. And because of the reckless attitude and inaction on the part of the State government over ten people, including women and children had to lose their precious lives, the appeal concluded.
