New Delhi: Though Government has taken no decision to blacklist all existing 'Deemed to be Univerties' (DUs) in the country it had accepted in principle the assessment of Review Committee of experts that 44 of the 130 such Universities did not deserve to continue with such a status, Rajya Sabha was informed today.
In a written answers to questions concerning the future of students of these DUs, Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeshwari said Government had constituted a Review Committee following the perception about the dilution of academic standards in certain institutions.
The issue was a matter of subjudice as it was before the Supreme Court.
The University Grants Commission which was responsible for coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education in India had sent draft regulation of DUs with the twin objective of regulating the process of declaration of the institutions as (DU) under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 and preventing the dubious institutions from being declared as DUs for Government's approval.
