Malegaon: The Aligarh Summer University 2010 in profound memory of eminent Nematologist and Professor Emeritus Abrar Mustafa at the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was formally inaugurated, says AMU official Zeeshan Ahmad.

 

Prof. Absar Mustafa, Coordinator of the Programme, while welcoming the delegates said that many graduates are unable to gain admission for advance studies in Western universities due to the lack of proper guidance. He said that AMU Alumni felt the need to guide under graduate and graduate students enrolled in AMU especially through summer university programme.

 

Speaking on the occasion Prof. Asad Ahmad, University of Alberta Edmonton, USA said that scientific education needs right guidance and training with good environment.

 

He said it is essential to get update with the standard of undergoing scientific studies and research work at AMU.

 

Prof. Ashraf Khan, Director Surgical Pathology University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, USA presented a paper on breast cancer malignancy in females and males.

 

Prof. Khan said that American Cancer Society estimates that in 2009 approximately 192370 new cases of invasive breast carcinoma and 62280 cases of in-situ carcinoma were diagnosed among women while 1910 breast cancer cases were diagnosed among males.

 

He said that advances in imaging techniques and increased use of aspiration needle biopsy have greatly assisted in the early detection and pre-operative evaluation. However, breast cancer among women remains to be a major public health problem.

 

The Dean, Faculty of Life Science Prof. Asad Ali Khan said that no academic activities could be achieved without active and sincere participation of faculty members and research scholars.

 

He said that in today’s modern science, things are moving at the rapid pace that any lethargy would definitely put us at disadvantage.
