New Delhi:
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi Saturday suspended a principal
and 18 regular teachers of its schools while terminating contracts
of 14 other teachers for absenteeism and dereliction of duty.
MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur said Dharam Veer Singh, the principal
of an MCD primary school in east Delhi, was suspended and regular
departmental action initiated against him in the latest drive by
the civic body to check absenteeism and dereliction of duty.
"During the inspection today (Saturday), it was found that the
school was in extremely poor sanitary conditions. The discipline
was also not found up to the mark. It was the duty of the
principal to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation as well as
discipline in the school premises which he failed to maintain,"
Mathur said.
Seven regular teachers of the school have been placed under
suspension with immediate effect as they were found absent without
intimation, he said.
Besides, contractual appointment of 14 teachers have been
terminated with immediate effect as they were also found to be
absent without intimation. The MCD administration has also sought
an explanation from the school inspector, who has not visited the
school for the last four months.
The action follows a visit to the school by education department
officials and also members of the monitoring committee set up by
the Delhi High Court.
Similarly, 11 regular teachers of the civic body's primary school
at Mukundpur in Civil Line Zone (north Delhi) have also been
placed under suspension with immediate effect as they were also
found to be absent without any notice.
