submits report on Gurgaon rainwater harvesting

The Jamia Millia Islamia University Monday submitted a draft
master plan on feasibility of rainwater harvesting for Gurgaon.
According to a press statement, the university has submitted a
report on ‘Feasibility and Design of Rainwater Harvesting Master
Plan of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) Area' to the MCG
Commissioner.
"The draft master plan report was prepared by the university after
a thorough study of the area and considering the relevant
parameters such as rainfall, groundwater condition and behaviour,
geology of the area, hydro-geo-environmental conditions and
hydro-geological condition," the press statement said.
The report has been prepared by the university's department of
civil engineering.
The department has also found some methods of effective rain water
harvesting with 30 percent of the total area allocated each for
roof tops and roads, and 40 percent for vegetation. There is also
a provision of 265 injection wells in the 11 zones of MCG.
Apart from other modern techniques, the university also
recommended that the structures be located in depression area in
absence of storm water drains in order to avoid contamination,
especially on the road sides, and that the structures should be
closed from top to avoid any oil spillage.
