New Delhi: India Friday
welcomed the signing of an agreement between the two rival
Palestinian political forces, Hamas and Fatah, and hoped it will
lead to peace and stability in the region.
"The government of India welcomes the reconciliation agreement
between Fatah and Hamas which ends the differences between the
West Bank and Gaza. We hope that this would promote the
realization of the aspirations of the Palestinian people and lead
to peace and stability in the region," said a statement issued by
the ministry of external affairs here.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah group inked a deal
Wednesday with bitter rival Hamas to end their long-running feud
and form an interim government ahead of elections within a year.
