New Delhi:
The Editors Guild of India wants the media to be kept out of the
Lokpal's ambit as it is a private entity, sources said Friday.
They said Guild representatives Friday conveyed this to the
parliamentary standing committee on law and justice that is
examining three versions of the proposed anti-graft ombudsman.
Several MPs, including those in the committee, have been demanding
that the media and NGOs be brought under the ambit of the
ombudsman.
Standing committee chairman Abhishek Singhvi is understood to have
said that the Guild members had stated their views "clearly and
provocatively".
Besides the Editors Guild, as many as 21 other organisations and
individuals were invited to share their views on the Lokpal issue
with the panel.
