JD (U) asks BJP not to be stubborn on Modi as PM candidate

Friday May 10, 2013 03:10:02 PM, IANS

Patna: Bihar's ruling Janata Dal (United) Friday urged its national ally Bharatiya Janata Party not to be stubborn over the projection of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate for the next general elections.

"The BJP should think and re-think after the results of the Karnataka polls. It is not easy for the BJP to go it alone, if it is keen to defeat the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in the 2014 polls," JD-U spokesperson Devesh Chand Thakur said.

Thakur said it is for the BJP to decide its future course of action, and the JD(U) could only make suggestions in the matter.

"The situation is turning favourable for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) across the country, thanks to the misrule and corruption of the Congress-led UPA government. The BJP should take that into consideration," Thakur, a JD-U legislator, told newspersons here.

Thakur said the BJP's stubbornness on any issue that is not acceptable to other allies in the NDA would only help the Congress-led UPA.

The JD (U) has, time and again, opposed Modi as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.
