Bhopal/Aizawl: Polling for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly began at 8 a.m. while ballotting began at 7 a.m.for the 40-member Mizoram legislative assembly on Monday, officials said.
Over 4.6 crore (46 million) voters are eligible in Madhya Pradesh to exercise their right to franchise.
In three constituencies in Maoist-affected Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, voting began an hour earlier and would conclude at 3 p.m.
For the first time, the none of the above (NOTA) option will be available to voters.
In the 2008 polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 143 seats while the Congress won 71.
In Mizoram, over 6.8 lakh voters are eligible to vote in the exercise to elect 40 members from among 142 candidates.
A newly-designed device, the Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system, is being used in 10 constituencies to help voters confirm that their votes were cast in favour of the candidate and party they opted for.
In the outgoing house, the Congress has 32 seats while the Mizo National Front has three members.
While the results will of Madhya Pradesh election be out Dec 8, counting of votes in Mizoram will be held Dec 9. Results will also be declared on the same day.
