Thursday October 31, 2013 9:41 PM, ummid.com Staff Reporter

22-year-old Abdul Moeed becomes first from Malegaon - the Muslim dominated town in North Maharashtra, who has been granted admission to the world renowned Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia.

Abdul Moeed's selection to the Islamic University of Madinah has been confirmed after a tough admission procedure, family sources said.

He will join over 8,000 other students of more than 160 countries including India later next month, the added.

Abdul Moeed - a Hafiz-e-Quran and a student of Fazeelat-awwal at Jamia Mohammaidia Mansoora in Malegaon, is the son of Qari Abdul Mateen and grandson of Qari Abdus Samad Faizee, an internationally acclaimed recitor of Quran.

Establised in 1978 Jamia Mohammadia Mansoora in Malegaon is among very few Madaris (plural of Madrasa) in India which run modern education along with Islamic stdudies. Jamia Mohammadia Mansoora also has the distinction of being the first Madrasa in India which along with introducing modern subjects restructured its Islamic curriculum as well.

Among other motives while establishing Jamia Mohammadia Mansoora in Malegaon the founders had wished that locals from Malegaon will be able to study at Islamic University of Madinah.

Though there are number of other Jamia Mohammadia Mansoora passouts from outside Malegaon who were earlier selected for admission at Islamic University of Madinah, Abdul Moeed is the first from the Muslim dominated city to achieve the coveted goal.

In 2009, Abdur Rehman, one of the Jamia Mohammadia Mansoora student studying at Islamic University of Madinah created history by scoring highest marks and bagging best student of the year award.

People from Malegaon have always been eager to send their wards to abroad for higher education. In sixties, four students from Malegaon went to Egypt to study at Al-Azhar University of Cairo. The four later became famous as Abdul Hameed Azhari, Mukhtar Ah Azhari, Abdul Ahad Azhari and Nazeer Azhari.
