Jeddah: President of the Islamic Development Bank Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali has announced that the price for sacrificial animal for the upcoming Haj would be 490 Saudi Riyals (US$ 131).
Ahmad Ali, who is also the head of the Saudi Project for the Utilization of Hajj Meat (ADAHI), made the announcement during a recent meeting with officials in charge of Haj affairs at embassies and consulates in Saudi Arabia.
The project coupons are available with entities such as Al Rajhi Bank, Al Amoudi Exchange, Hadyat Al Hajj Wal Moatamer as well as with Saudi Posts' outlets throughout the Kingdom and through the latter's websites.
He said pilgrims could also purchase coupons through the Project website (www.adahi.org) for rites such as hady or odhiya, or Sadaqa, either through credit card or money transfer.
He indicated that the project posted a record utilization of 960,829 livestock last year and the meat was later distributed amongst the poor and needy in Saudi Arabia, besides exporting to 19 countries.
He called on the media to enhance awareness among pilgrims of their respective countries about taking advantage of this project.
"The Adahi project is one of the services offered by the Kingdom to pilgrims in order to help them in performing their religious duties", he said.
Dr. Ali recalled that before the initiation of the Adahi Project over 30 years ago, things were difficult, and the project seeks to implement the system effectively against unscrupulous elements who take advantage of the pilgrims in the name of Adahi, while in reality they do not have the resources to purchase the livestock.
The president stated that the project is meant to serve the pilgrims by providing livestock that meet all Shari'a and health requirements and by ensuring the cleanliness of the environment around the Holy Sites.
He also observed that the livestock are closely being inspected by veterinarians and Sharia'a scholars.
Dr. Ali explained that the project helps to make the meat available to its rightful beneficiaries among the poor at the Haram Mosque and Holy Sites as well as beneficiaries in many Muslim countries and Muslim communities all over the world.
He indicated that the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has spent over SR 1 billion on the modern automated slaughterhouses, which are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
The IDB President pointed out that the project has enabled pilgrims to perform this rite with great ease and thus focus on other Haj rites.
He also stressed the need to avoid going to the project's abattoirs during peak Haj season.
