Baku: The Deputy Mufti of North Ossetia (one of Russian Federation republics) Rasul Gamzatov was killed by an unidentified assassin in the regional capital city Vladikavkaz, according to Russian media sources.
Interfax News Agency quoted, on Monday, the Russian Interior Ministry in North Ossetia as saying: “The Mufti was killed on his way home after he alighted from his car, where the killer approached him and shot him dead,” adding that investigation is underway at the scene.”
It is noteworthy that this is the second incident involving a Muslim leader in this region within the past three years – whereas, the former Imam of Vladikavkaz mosque, Ibrahim Dodarov, was murdered in December 2012.
The case remains unresolved.
