International relation is gravitating towards chaotic world order. The forces of conflict seem to be dominating over those supposedly mandated to maintain global peace. There seems to be conspiracy of silence by the guarantors of peace, as the perpetrators of violence are masquerading like free booters on rampage all over the world.
The world has never witnessed the crisis of order since the withering away of the bipolar world in the 1990. Many events have taken place since then, but the international situation has never been as alarming as it is now.
There is string of local bush fires burning around the world. Every one seems to be watching them from the comfort of their homes, wondering how and when these flames would be doused.
The foremost hot spot is the Israel- Palestine conflict focused at Gaza. The state of Israel has defied all the international norms and indulged in wanton destruction of the Gaza strip. Here a war is raging on between the colonizer of the Palestinian land, and those resisting the illegal occupation.
Israel has opened the fire arms to annihilate a mass of population in retaliation to the revolt put by the people of Palestine. The semblance of resistance put up by Palestinians is branded as acts of terrorism. The international community seems to be siding with the Israel. What looks imminent is the extinguishing of the Palestinian state in near future. This is the strangest reality that the world is watching with bleeding hearts.
The scene changes to Ukraine, another flash point in the world. The Ukrainian crisis began last November when its President Viktor Yanukovych rejected a deal for greater integration with the European Union), sparking wide ranging protests. Ukrainians seems to be divided between pro EU and pro Russian sympathizers. This disagreement had perpetrated internal crisis. Meanwhile, Russia invaded and annexed Crimea, a territory part of Ukraine. Further, the pro-Russia separatist has seized government buildings in three eastern Ukrainian cities, raising fears that Russia will attempt seize these parts of Ukraine as well.
Adding to it is the shooting down of Malaysian passenger airplane MH17, carrying 298 people. Ukraine has accused pro-Russian separatist rebels of downing the plane. This incident has heightened tensions in the region and may have long-term geopolitical consequences. There is almost an anarchic situation building up in Ukraine. It seems no one interested in how to stop the turn of events there and how to establish peace.
Iraq is another hot spot where there is civil war is raging on. The vacuum that has been created since the removal of the Bathist regime has still not been filled up. The American occupation of Iraq has further compounded the problems there. In the absence of any credible regime, the Islamist group that has sprung up is running all over the place. The world is waking up to the reality that a Taliban like regime may take over Iraq and further anarchy is in the offing there. Who is responsible for it, is not a matter of debate, nor any one seem interested in stopping this storm. All are clueless what alternative could be put up in such situation.
Its in Iraq that the Kurdist rebel likes to break free and international community seem to be siding with them. Elsewhere, for instance like Kashmir, there is opposition to such plan. This double game is the strangest reality watched with agonizing hearts.
There are some other countries in West Asia that are in turmoil as well. There are trouble in Egypt, Yemen, Syria and Libya. There is no mechanism in place to address the issues of conflict over there. No one knows how any semblance of order can be established in these nations.
There are many African countries that are witnessing ethnic and sectarian violence as well. In southern Thailand, the Patani, region is in turmoil. Addressing the problem of Southern Thailand is hardly a global concern.
In South Asia, Pakistan and Afghanistan continues to be in turmoil. Both the nations seem to be sitting on the powder keg and the loss of human lives taking place there on daily basis. In South Asia political instability in Afghanistan has created a chaotic situation. The problem of Kashmir has caused immense human suffering. There is little effort being made to address the issues of conflict. There is hardly any one interested to douse the flames in the region.
The all round destructions are graphically brought out by the media every day through global TV coverage. A large number of human losses have already occurred and many more are occurring. The wanton killings are leading to an anarchic situation in the world. Every one is silently watching these global developments. Those watching them with sensitive hearts are helpless at the turn of the events. They can only sympathize with those suffering as only those suffering know what damage violence can do in aggravating their sufferings.
In all these raging bush fires, the most conspicuous thing is a total lack of international authority to stop the continued violence. There is no mechanism in place to restore peace.
No one knows when and how this trail of destruction will come to a halt. No one knows how many dead more will be counted. It is very traumatic situation where people feel helpless and counting the dead.
The global situation has never been as strange as it is now. If this continues to drift the same away, peace may become premium in the world. Never our planet has been so nasty, brutish, and sordid and sort as it is today.
