Write to Modi or Pranab, I don’t give a damn: SDM Malegaon to industrialists
Industrialists scroll from one office to another with requests to stop illegal blasts carried in and around MIDC office but mining mafia given free run in exchange of huge money

As local industrialists stroll from one office to another with a plea to stop blasts carried by illegal mining mafia in and around the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area, the local SDM shocked them by his arrogance and told them to approach President Pranab Mukherji, Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, he did not care.

“You write to Pranab, Modi or Chavan, I don’t give them a damn”, Sandip Patil, the SDM Malegaon, said even as the shocked industrialists watched in disbelief.

The industrialists were at SDM office with a petition to request Patil to take action against the mining carried illegally in and around the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) land by the sand and stone mafia.

“We are requesting the SDM and other concern officers and departments since last more than six months to stop the blasts carried by the crusher owners in and around the Malegaon MIDC land, as they are threatening the under construction industrial and factory sheds. However, no action is being taken place”, Aleem Faizee, General Secretary of Malegaon Industries’ & Manufacturers’ Association (MIMA) said while talking to ummid.com.

He said on the advice of Ramdas Khedkar, the Regional Managaer, MIDC RO Office, Nashik, they had met SDM Sandip Patil last week with a petition copies of which were also sent to Chief Minister Chavan, Dy CM Ajit Pawar and other ministries including the revenue and industry departments.

“When he saw the names of chief minister and other ministers down under our request letter, he retorted to by saying that we can also write to the president or prime minister, he did not care”, Faizee added.

When ummid.com visited the MIDC area to confirm the illegal mining and blasts, the allegations were found to be true, and the indiscriminate and huge blasts were indeed threatening the under-construction factory sheds.

“They are not only threatening our factory sheds but also are a risk to our life”, Naved Anjum of KHM Textiles said.

He said very often stones are scattered all around after the blasts, many a time, hitting the labourers who are working there.

Ummid.com talked to a person who identified himself as Mahinder and claimed to be working for some Sunil, and was doing the blasts in the area. (The entire conversation is video recorded). He said he had carried more than 30 blasts in the area since morning. He also said that in the last 20-30 days he had carried more than 1000 blasts in the same area.

Talking to sources, who are part of the local mining mafia, it was found that many crushers in and around the MIDC area are illegal, and are operating without proper permission. He also said that none of the crush owners have the permission to use the explosives and do the blasts.

“The crushers in Nashik, Dhule and all other neighbouring cities have been banned. Only in Malegaon, we are operating. We are paying a huge amount every month, and whenever officials come. Hence there is no threat to our business”, he said while talking to ummid.com.

Ramdas Khedkar, Regional Manager, MIDC RO Office, Nashik confirmed the mining in and around the MIDC area are illegal, and the blasts are threatening the industries.

“Following the complaints by the industrialists, I too have written to Malegaon SDM and other concerned officers including the District Magistrate. But, I am not aware of what action they have taken against the illegal mining mafia”, he said while talking to ummid.com.

When ummid.com contacted, Deepak Patil, Tahsildar Malegao, whom SDP Patil said is the right person to talk on the matter, he said he has already directed the local police to take action against the illegal mining.

“I have already directed the police to take action and file FIR against the illegal mining mafia. What more can I do?” he said.

The indiscriminate blasts carried by the illegal mining mafia and the free run given to them is also surprising because Malegaon is considered a sensitive city, and terrorist blasts in 2006 and 2008 have killed more than 38 people.
