New Delhi/ Lucknow: Even as the BJP supported the alleged mass conversion of about 300 poor Muslims to Hinduism by RSS in Madhunagar area of Agra, leaders belonging to opposition parties Tuesday slammed the government for keeping silent on the sensetive issue.
"This is communal work done by RSS in the shadow of the ruling BJP and such activities will continue till PM Narendra Modi is in power", said NCP leader and former union minister Tariq Anwar.
Janata Dal (U) leader Ali Anwar too shared the same opinion.
Samajwadi Party leader Rajendra Chaudhary on the other hand said that information on the incident will be gathered and action will be taken on the matter if necessary.
BJP leader Vinay Katiyar however said that the people were once Hindus so there is nothing wrong in the process.
As per reports published in the media Monday, members of at least 57 Muslim families were converted to Hinduism at a ceremony called 'Purkhon ki ghar vapsi', a mass conversion jointly organized by Dharma Jagran Samanvay Vibhag, an offshoot of the RSS, and Bajrang Dal in Agra.
The Hindu outfits also claimed that around 5,000 more Muslims and Christians will be "brought back into Hindu fold" in Aligarh on this Christmas.
"The grand event will be held at Maheshwari College in Aligarh," RSS regional head Rajeshwar Singh said, daring anyone to stop it.
