Lucknow: Two senior members of the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee (AIBMAC) on the 22nd anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition came with differing views on offering prayers in the one-third portion allotted to Muslims in the 2010 Allahabad High Court Judgement.

While Vice-President of the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee (AIBMAC) and senior advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqui is of the view that Muslims should be allowed to offer prayers inside the one-third portion allotted to Muslims, its convenor Zafaryab Jilani said the proposal will have to be first taken up with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) committee on Babri Masjid.
While addressing some people in Ayodhaya (on the 22nd anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition) Advocate Mushtaq urged them to approach the receiver — Faizabad divisional commissioner — to take up the issue of offering namaz inside the premises.
"If needed, we are ready to approach the Supreme Court as a last resort," he said.
In its 2010 judgment, the Allahabad High Court gave one-third portion each to Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmoni Akhara and 'Ram Lalla'.
AIBMAC convenor Zafaryab Jilani, however, said that the propsal is not 'practical' as the Faizabad divisional commissioner has been tasked to maintain 'status quo'.
"The task of the Supreme Court designated authority (Faizabad divisional commissioner) is to maintain status quo, so no group can directly approach him to request any changes on the site, but only take up the matter through the Supreme Court", he said.
Jilani also said that Mushtaq's proposal will have to be first taken up with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) committee on Babri Masjid, whose convenor is Mumbai based lawyer Yusuf Hatim Muchalla and where Mushtaq is also a member.
"As of now, he has not brought it up formally," Jilani said.
Babri Masjid was demolished on December 06, 1992 by the Hindu extremists who were incited and led by senior BJP leaders. The BJP is now in power in New Delhi.
