Srinagar/Jammu: The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mufti Mohd Saeed and the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) are in neck and neck battle for the status of single largest party as Jammu and Kashmir heads for a hung assembly.

Trends availabe till 10:30 a.m. showed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is ahead in 24 seats whereas, giving the PDP a close contest, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is ahead in 23 seats of the total 87 seats in the state where counting began this morning.
BJP's star cmapaigner and the prominent Muslim face of the saffron party in Jammu and Kahsmir Hina Bhatt is leading ahead of all her rivals in Amirakadal.
Amirakadal, from where Dr. Hina Bhatt of BJP, who is the daughter of former National Conference MLC Muhammad Shafi Bhat, is currently leading, was the seat Yusuf Shah contested in 1987. After the rigged elections, he became Syed Salahuddin, head of the Hizbul Mujahiddin.
Congress and the ruling NC were ahead in just 15 and 18 seats respectivley. While the Congress is shwoing a loss of 02 seats as compared to the last election, the ruling NC shows a loss of 10 seats.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is leading in both his constituencies, Beerwah and Sonawar.
Most exit polls have predicted a hung assembly in Jammu and Kashmir, the country's only Muslim-majority state.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh told CNN-IBN that the BJP was "going to make history in Jammu and Kashmir".
A total of 48.29 lakh votes are to be counted.
