World Capitals: Thousands of angry demonstrators turned out to the streets around the world on Friday, July 11, to protest the Israeli war on besieged Gaza Strip that has resulted in the killing of more than 120 Palestinian and injuring of hundreds, OnIslam.net reported Saturday.
In London, several thousands of people filled the streets outside the Israeli Embassy in London, displaying signs that read "Gaza: End the Siege" and "Freedom for Palestine".
The British capital saw the largest turnout with thousands of protesters rallying outside the Israeli Embassy on Friday.
A number of people also staged a ‘die-in’ in the street with children painting their faces to mirror the injuries sustained by Palestinian infants during the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, Russia Today reported.
Paris saw a smaller protest where about 300 demonstrated against the Israeli aggression outside the French Foreign Ministry on Friday.
In Italy, Palestinians and Italian pro-Palestine supporters marched in Rome to protest the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Protests were not less tense in Oslo where around 3,000 pro-Palestine activists gathered outside the parliamentary building in support of peace in Gaza.
Representatives from the Palestine Committee of Norway gave speeches at the event, condemning Israeli strikes in Gaza that have already claimed more than 120 lives as Operation Protective Edge entered its fifth day on Saturday.
“There is one occupier and one occupied. There is one offender and one victim,” Heikki Eidsvoll Holmas from the Socialist Left Wing Party, reported the Local.
“It is Israel that never will have peace before they tear down the wall. We need politicians who condemn the wrong-doings of the offender.”
In Canada, supporters of the Palestine House and the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid gathered on Bloor Street West near the Royal Ontario Museum to protest what they call the “ongoing collective punishment of Palestinians.”
“We need to stop this aggression against innocent people,” said Wael Ghuneim, president of the Palestinian Association of Hamilton, while a large crowd of supporters chanted and waved placards.
“This aggression must end … to stop all this blood for both people.”
Israel has been launching relentless airstrikes against Gaza since Tuesday in which more than 120 have been killed and over 500 injured in the tiny coastal strip.
Israel has claimed that its new war on Gaza, under the title Operation Protect Edge, was a response to the rocket attacks being carried out by Hamas.
It added that its offensive is intended to halt rocket fire at its cities from the Gaza Strip.
There have been no Israeli casualties from the hundreds of rockets that have been fired by militants in Gaza.
