Gaza: At least 17 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes at an overcrowded market in Gaza Wednesday after Hamas rejected an Israeli four-hour truce offer, a media report said.
As many as 160 people were injured, many of them critically, when Israeli tanks kept shelling the market in Shejaiya area, despite the presence of paramedics and journalists there, Xinhua quoted medics and witnesses as saying.
The market was overcrowded with people after Israel earlier announced a four-hour humanitarian ceasefire, which, however, was rejected by Hamas.
In another incident, a Gaza health ministry spokesman said four more people were killed in Israel's artillery shelling on eastern Khan Younis in southern Gaza Strip.
A total of 1,327 Palestinians have been killed since an Israeli offensive on Gaza started was launched July 8, officials said.
