Istanbul: A New York based US-Jewish group has asked Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to return back an award it had given to him way back in 2004 for what it termed his 'anti-Israel' stand.
The American Jewish Congress in a letter sent to Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan last week said that he had become the world’s “most virulent anti-Israeli leader” and hence should return the award it had given to him partly for his efforts to broker peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
In response to this, Erdogan's office released a letter on Tuesday which said, "Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan would be glad to return the award given to him by a Jewish-American association a decade ago."
Erdogan’s office released a copy of the letter, addressed to American Jewish Congress President Jack Rosen, to the media, describing it as Turkey’s official response.
It also called on the US group to condemn the Israeli government’s policies.
