New Delhi/Aligarh/Lucknow: Noted film director and social activist Mahesh Bhatt Saturday launched a signature campaign demanding Bharat Ratna to the great educationlist and founder of the Aligarh Muslim University Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
In a glittering function organised jointly by the Aligarh Movement monthly magazine and the Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) Aligarh at La Meridian Hotel, New Delhi , launching the signature campaign for bestowing upon Bharat Ratna on Sir Syed, Mahesh Bhatt applauded the steps taken by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan for empowerment of Indian masses.
"Sir Syed revolutionised the Indian education system by introducing residential system. He wanted to empower Indian masses, particularly Muslims, with education and for that he adopted the western system", he said.
He said the unique feature of the education policy of Sir Syed was the focus on good manners and cultures along with the text education.
He said that AMU, the flag bearer of Sir Syed`s self empowerment project, has not only provided the Muslims an opportunity to compete in the fast changing world but it has also given a place to India on world map as the old boys of AMU have occupied important offices throughout the world.
"Even after 65 years of independence, justice has not been done to the great multi-faceted personality who is known as Sir Syed", he said.
He said that time has come when we all should demand Bharat Ratna for him.
He also appealed to all sections of the country to stand up and call on the government to deliver justice to the man who brought a wide section of Indian society to educational mainstream.
