Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi led Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has bagged one municipal council and won 107 wards in different districts, including those in Rayalaseema region.
The MIM had fielded its candidates in 252 wards. Of them, the MIM candidates emerged victorious in 107 wards.
Of the total 24 candidates in Nizamabad Municipal Corporation, the MIM was able to win 16 divisions.
In other municipalities too, the MIM candidates gave an impressive performance.
In Bhainsa, the MIM won 12 out of 15 wards it had contested.
Similarly, it won 10 wards each in Nirmal and Tandur.
The others municipalities where the MIM candidates emerged victorious are Sangareddy - 8, Mahaboob Nagar - 7, Bodhan - 7, Koratla - 5, Adoni - 5, Adilabad - 4, Nalgonda - 3, Zaheerabad -3, Naryanpet - 2, Karimnagar (Corp) - 2 and one ward each in Sadasivpet, Vikarabad, Medak, Shadnagar, Kamareddy, Peddapalli and Kalwakurthi.
The MIM candidates lost from all eight wards in Gadwal.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) swept the urban body polls in Seemandhra, winning power in five corporations and 58 municipalities. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) bagged two corporations and 16 municipalities. It will be hung civic bodies in 18 towns.
Overall, the TDP has bagged 1,446 seats (divisions or wards) and the YSR Congress 852 in Seemandhra. Others, majority of them Independents, have won 120 seats. The Congress finished a poor third with 55 seats.
Barring Kadapa and Kurnool, it was the TDP which dominated Seemandhra.
The Congress party was virtually wiped out in the municipal polls in Seemandhra but won a majority of the seats in Telangana.
The bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh appeared to have proved costly for the Congress as it could not win a single municipal corporation or municipality in elections in the 13 districts of Seemandhra.
The results of most of the 10 municipal corporations and 146 municipalities, which went to polls March 30, were announced till 3 p.m.
In Telangana, elections were held for 56 municipalities and three corporations and in Seemandhra for 90 municipalities and seven corporations.
