Mumbai: Asif Shaikh Rasheed, the Congress MLA from Malegaon (Central) assembly constituency, Tuesday took the oath in the Urdu language whereas Imtiyaz Jaleel, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA from Aurangabad (East) assembly seat, sworn in as legislator in the Marathi language.

Asif Shaikh began taking oath with Bismillah ir Rehman ir Raheem, with the name of Allah, the most merciful, read the entire text in Urdu, and ended with 'Jai Hind', 'Jai Maharashtra' and 'Khuda Hafiz'.
Waris Pathan, another MIM MLA who represents Byculla assembly seat in Mumbai, took the oath as legislator in Hindi. Like Asif Shaikh, Imtiyaz Jaleel and Waris Pathan both began taking oath with Bismillah ir Rehman ir Raheem.
Asif Shaikh, Imtiyaz Jaleel and Warsi Pathan - all the three Muslim MLAs have been elected to the Maharashtra's lower house for the first time.
Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi, another Muslim MLA, who reprsents Mankhurd (Mumbai) constituency, also took the oath in Hindi language - this time without any barrier.
In 2009 when Azmi was elected to the Maharashtra assembly for the first time, he was slapped by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) legislators for taking oath in the Hindi language.
After re-election, Azmi had said he would take oath in Hindi as the language is his mother tongue and he is more comfortable in it.
The Maharashtra assembly has a total of 09 Muslim MLAs - all belonging to the Congress, NCP, MIM and SP. Probably for the first time, no Muslim legislator is seen on the treasury benches.
Meanwhil, Jamiat-e-Ulema Mumbai felicitated Abu Asim Azmi, Amin Patel, Asif Shaikh, Imtiyaz Jaleel, Waris Pathan and Abdus Sattar at its Md Ali Road office.
The Jamiat had invited all the nine Muslim MLAs to its office for felicitation. However except the above, others including, Arif Naseem Khan, the most inefficient minister in the last government, did not turn up at the Jamiat office.
