HC restrains IIPM from using MBA, BBA name for courses
Friday September 26, 2014 11:20 PM, IANS

The Delhi High Court Friday restrained the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) from using terms such as "MBA , BBA or management course" for the courses it offers.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S Endlaw directed the IIPM to prominently display on their website that they are not recognized by any statutory body or authority in India.

It also restrained the college from even calling itself management school, business school or B-school.

"IIPM and its management/officials including its dean Arindam Chaudhuri are restrained with immediate effect from using the word 'MBA, BBA, management course, management school, business school or B-School' in relation to the courses/programmes being conducted by them," said the bench.

It also asked the IIPM to upload and display prominently on its website, within a week, this judgment to "ensure that attention of anyone visiting that website is drawn thereto (we clarify that the short time of one week is given since this is admission time, when students not admitted to institutes/colleges of their first choice, would be queuing for other institutes)".

The court's order came on a PIL alleging IIPM of misleading, cheating and exploiting students by fraudulently using MBA or BBA in its prospectus and official website as courses offered by it. The IIPM is not approved by the All India Council of Technical Education, which grants approval to colleges and universities for management courses.
