London: All Twitter users can now apply to get the coveted blue verified badge. The social media firm has created an online application wherein users can apply for a chance to get the check mark.
However, Twitter still says it will only approve 'an account may be verified if it is determined to be of public interest', reported ‘Daily Mail’.
Tina Bhatnagar, Twitter's Vice-President of User Services, was quoted as saying that the firm wants to make it “even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter”.
Those that fall under 'public interest' includes accounts maintained by public figures and organisations in music, TV, film, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.
Twitter has only about 187,000 verified accounts, while there are about 320 million monthly active users.
The verified badge – a white tick mark on a blue badge – lets people know that the account is of public interest and authentic.
Until recently there was no means for an individual or organisation to get its account verified unless Twitter did it on its own.
