Mumbai: Even as hundreds of parents with their anxious and worried wards on Monday protested outside the Office of the Deputy Director of Education, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in Mumbai, the Deputy Dirctor in an official notification turned down their demands ruling out the possibility of offline mode for admission to First Year Junior College (FYJC).
"In view of the interim order passed by the Honorable Bombay High Court in PIL 127 of 2014, admissions to FYJC classes in the MMR are strictly through ‘Online’. It is therefore reiterated that there shall be no ‘Offline’ admissions in the MMR", B.B. Chavan, Dy. Director of Education, Mumbai Region said in an official notification posted on the department's website.
The Dy. Director however announced that FJYC 5th round and Special Online rounds will be arranged for those who have passed with A.T.K.T. and in the supplementary examination held in July 2016.
"In view of the assurance of the Honorable Minister for School Education and Sports, a special round of ‘Online’ admissions is arranged for all those who are without allocation for various reasons as per the time table", he said.
He also said that the departement will complete Online Applications between July 30 to August 2, and will release the Merit List on August 4.
"All the admission formalities will be completed by August 5th & 6th", he said.
The Special Round of Online admission will be held for those who have passed with A.T.K.T. and in the supplementary examination held in July 2016.
Students who wish to change their existing allocation for whatever reasons and those who have still not register for whatever reasons can also take part in the Special Rounds.
"All such candidates are required to register & apply Fresh on payment of Fee", the Dy. Director said.
The Special Round will be arranged between August 9 to August 13, 2016. Special Round 2 will be held from August 18 to 23, and Special Round 3 will be held from August 25 to 30.
The Dy. Director also said that out of 2,22,622 applicants, only two applicants could not get allocation at the end of 4th Merit List. Out of 1,53,326 applicants who have completed admission formalities, 1,13,161 applicants were allocated according to their First/Second choice.
"Around 70,000 applicants did not complete admission formalities in spite of the fact that they were allocated according to their Merit and their preference", he said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of students with their parents gathered outside the Office of the Dy. Director on Monday and demanded hodling offlice admission. They were also agitated over the department's decision to hold FYJC Special Rounds on Fresh Fee.
"We have wasted lot of time and money in first four rounds. Now the department wants us to pay the fee again and participate in special rounds. This is ridiculous", Shabnam Shaikh, a parent, said.
Neha Tarannum, a student, said she scored 82% marks in the exam and was confident of getting admission in a nearby college. But, she said, she was alloted a seat somewhere else.
"I wanted admission in Bandra. But, after online rounds I have been alloted a seat in Thane. This is not acceptable", she said.
"The department should conduct offline admission process so that we can take admissions in the colleges of our choice", she added.
