Kanpur: Why do we continue to show interest in the Convent schools? Does it indicate our inclination towards maintaining a kind of status? Reality is that if we are well off we hanker after such type of educational institutions and it cannot be denied altogether. If we consider various facts in regard to educational standard, there is no marked difference with other learning centres. What differentiates these schools is that the medium of education is English and definitely it is this point that attracts us towards those schools.
Comparatively, what is better there? Educational standard is not much better than others. The fee is not lower nor discipline is praiseworthy nor is academic atmosphere excellent. After that what attracted Ibrahim’s parents to educate his only son to admit him in the name of qualitative education there. They did not appear to have thought a little more in this regard. Like others, they also approached the school for admission as has been corroborated by his parents’ views.
“We began exercising most of our capacities without pondering over anything in particular for the admission”, they made it clear.
It was about four-month long wait on the part of them which came to an end at July’s end and they were now driven to feel elated at their life’s success. They are now giving the impression of being the happiest parents to a higher degree.
“The hardship would be intolerable for everyone. But we have surmounted all the hindrances and this paved the way for our son to enter the portals of an English-medium school. Our journey for securing admission was not as easier as climbing on Mount Everest. It was after long labours we succeeded in securing admission” expressed the elated parents.
However, it is pretty clear from their respective faces if it troubled them in initial days they did not bother to show it at that turbulent stage. They now looked apparently well satisfied with the end result of the progress of their exertions. As the days for admission were approaching near, the state of preliminary rounds of traumatic shock did not seem to deter them from leaving the efforts.
"There is indeed a limit to how much the human mind can take", they said.
Raising his eyes from the depths of the corner pit, Ibrahim’s father stated dully: Currency notes worth -------------, I spent over my resolution. It is a bargain. I got admission at this value practically a give-away. True, it does not cost me enough as the asking rate has just exactly reached to an abnormal level over the past many years.
His step was almost jaunty and he seemed too displeased with life. He looked at the bank of cloud moving in slowly, very slowly, from the west as if his disturbance cleared over his head for ever.
Ibrahim’s first day of the school in uniform was brought happiness on their respective faces but five-year-old Ibrahim was not so happy as he even started weeping prior to entering the class room. He maintained silence in the class till the last bell rang. His fast friend Saad told that he was quiet calm in the class as his face was noticeably lacking other commendable features; his eyes were by far the most remarkable feature. They were huge, clear, of a darting deep sea-white and were possessed of an odd quality of purity and innocence.
Commenting upon their views on admission to the prestigious school, they said that we wished of an excellent education to our son and it was now possible through schooling at this learning institution. That’s why we toiled and moiled all these days.
On another query, they replied that our education unquestionably had not completed at such posh schools but we did not lack the intrinsic worth of an occidental education. This declaration was promptly justified by the sagacious wife with her admirable words for the husband. Looking around her, Ibrahim’s mother unhurriedly acknowledged that the parents were moving towards such schools because it corresponds with the prevailing disposition of the individuals in the society. Certainly, you may not call it not a special choice but you can judge it by how the scenario is developing!
