Malegaon: Taking a dig at Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief's plan to win elections in every nook and corner of the country, Hyderabad MP and President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday challenged him to contest Lok Sabha polls against him in Hyderabad.
"After recent victories in elections, the BJP chief came to Hyderabad and said their aim now is to sweep elections in Telangana and also dislodge me from Hyderabad LS seat.
"If he is so confident of sweeping Telangana, I challenge him to contest the election against me in Hyderabad", Owaisi said while advising the BJP chief to stop day-dreaming.
Hyderabad MP and President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi was in Malegaon on Friday to kick-start the party's campaign ahead of the civic elections scheduled to be held on May 24.
Owaisi also claimed that during the Modi wave in 2014, the AIMIM stopped the BJP from winning elections in Telangana.
"The BJP won elections elsewhere in the country. It also won 42 of the total 48 seats in Maharashtra. But it could win only 02 seats in Telangana", Owaisi said.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also accused Narendra Modi of double standard and questioned his "Sab Ka Saath Sab ka Vikaas" mantra.
Owaisi said that the Prime Minister was very quick to express his grief and concern over events outside of India but maintained silence on crimes against Muslims and other marginalised regularly taking place in the country.
"The Prime Minister is very quick to tweet his grief over terror attack which occured in Stockholm. But, his twitter does not light up when an innocent Muslim died after attack by cow vigilantes in Alwar district of Rajasthan", Asaduddin Owaisi said in Malegaon.
Asaduddin Owaisi said if the government of India is so much concerned about cows, it should come out with a proper program, sanction a budget for their safety, and he and his party would support the initiative.
Owaisi also said that hundreds of thousands of women and their children in the country sleep hungry but the government was totally ignorant of such serious issue.
Criticising Narendra Modi's tenure in the last three years, Owaisi accused the Prime Minister of indluging in "politics of fear".
"The present dispendsation has done nothing for the people in the last three years except playing politics of fear with Muslims", he said while addressing a public meeting near Ali Akbar Hopital in Gandhi Nagar area of the city.
In his hou-long speech Owaisi also criticised Modi government over Triple Talaq issue and targeted media for ignoring the fact that Modi has abandoned his wife.
"The Prime Minister nowadays is worried over the plight of Muslim women because of triple talaq. The media has also made it a routine to play on the issue almost on daily basis. Why the media is silent about the plight of prime minister's estranged wife", Owaisi asked.
"Muslims are not alone who divorce their wives. Muslim women are not alone who are targeted in the country. Then why nobody is talking about them? Aren't they human being and citizens of this country", he asked.
Addressing a rally first time in Malegaon after three successive defeats in the recently held elections, Owaisi reminded the gathering of the struggle of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen in the past 60 years.
"Victory and defeats are part of elections. Majlis is not a party which gets discouraged by such things. The party has seen many ups and downs in the last six decade and has the capacity to revive itself after debacle", he said.
Malegaon corporation has 21 wards and each ward will elect 04 corporators. This takes the total number of corporators to 84.
Though the AIMIM has not yet released list of its candidates in Malegaon, sources said the party is planning to contest election in all seats.
Sources also said besides addressing the public rally in Malegaon, Asaduddin Owaisi while in Malegaon on Friday also met and held meetings with party workers who want to contest the election as AIMIM candidate.
Earlier Asaduddin Owaisi arrived in Malegaon Friday afternoon to a warm welcome. He offered Friday prayers at Aulia Masjid, Kusumba Road with a huge number of party workers.
