Shamli (Uttar Pradesh): In a rare achievement in a region known for its opposition to female education, daughter of a local vegetable vendor Nagma Mansuri and a student of Rashtriya Kisan Post Graduate (RK PG) College topped the Chaudhary Charan Singh University to win a Gold Medal.
Ram Naik, Uttar Pradesh Governor and Chancellor Chaudhary Charan Singh University – formerly known as Meerut University, awarded the Gold Medal to Nagma Mansuri at a glittering ceremony held last Monday for scoring maximum marks in Physics subject.
A student of M.Sc., Nagma Mansuri, is fond of teaching and hence wants to pursue Ph.D.
“I love teaching and want to join a college as professor”, she is quoted as saying by Twocircles.net Hindi.
Nagma’s success is a repeat of the equally glaring achievement of her elder sister Tabassum Mansuri who had topped the Meerut University back in 2014. Their younger brother is a student of Computer Science.
Mansuri siblings’ father had studied till 8th class and their mother never went to any school. The poor parents however are aware of the importance of education, and hence despite economic hurdles make sure that their children acquire higher education.
Shamli witnessed worst kind of communal riots in 2013, following which hundreds of families had migrated to settle in other towns and cities or in relief camps. The town has a very poor female literacy rate.
However the small number of girls who were in schools was forced to drop out due to the riots. By their impressive achievements Mansuri sisters have become a role model for other girls in the locality.
“Initially, people were criticizing us for sending our daughters to college. But, after the laurel they brought to the town by their astonishing success, they have become a role model for others.
“There are many girls in the town who want to become like them and come to our house for guidance”, Farzana Mansuri, their mother, said.
