Malegaon: The neck-and-neck battle between the Congress and NCP-JD (S) alliance to capture power at the 84-member Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC), ended in a photo finish with the former winning 28 seats and the latter bagging 27 seats, according to the result announced by the Malegaon Municipal Election department Friday afternoon.
Others who were in the fray are AIMIM which won 07 seats, Shiv Sena 13 seats and BJP won a total of 09 seats.

02:50 pm Ibrahim Seth National, son of a revert Muslim who created history after becoming Mayor of Malegaon in 2014, has lost the Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) election, results of which were announced Friday. He had contested the election as Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Haji Mohd Yaseen, father of Haji Ibrahim, the newly elected mayor of Malegaon, had migrated to Malegaon from Rajasthan. He later reverted to Islam with his entire family.
In another unexpected result, AIMIM Malegaon president and former Mayor Abdul Malik Yunus Isa has also lost the election from Ward no. 17.
Malik Yunus Isa had also contest from Ward No 20 against Congress president Shaikh Rasheed. He lost in Ward No 20 as well.
12:15 pm The Congress and NCP-JD(S) alliance are in neck-and-neck battle to capture power at the 84-member Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) whereas the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which fielded a large number of Muslims for the first time is facing a humiliating defeat.
According the trends available at 12:15 pm, the NCP-JD(S) alliance and the Congress both are leading on as many as 26 seats each.
The BJP is leading on just 03 seats, far behind of its rival Shiv Sena which is leading on 10 seats.
The BJP has claimed to defeat Shiv Sena and win all 20 seats in the Hindu dominated areas of Malegaon and also claimed to open account in the Muslim dominated areas of the city where it had fielded 36 candidates including 27 Muslims.
But while it is leading on just 03 seats in the Hindu area, none of its candidates in the Muslim areas are in a position to win the election.

11:45 am The NCP-JD(S) alliance victory march in Malegaon continues. In another significant outcome of the Malegaon Municipal electios, Asaduddin Owaisi led AIMIM is ahead on 15 seats, according to the latest ternds in Malegaon where counting of votes is still underway.
The NCP-JD(S) is ahead on 34 seats wheras Congress is struggling at 14 seats, according to trends at 11:45 am.

11:30 am The NCP-JD(S) alliance is set to emerge as the single largest group in Malegaon Muncipal Corporation (MMC), surging comfortably ahead of the key rival Congress.
According to the trends at 11:15 am, the NCPJD(S) candidates are ahead on 24 seats whereas Congress is struggling at 14.
The AIMIM is leading on 06 seats, the Shiv Sena on 07 and BJP on 01.
11:00 am Janata Dal president Bulund Iqbal is leading in Ward No 12 whereas the other candidates of NCP Kaleem Delawar, Asefa Rashid and Sajeda Rasheed in this ward are also ahead of their rivals. NCP and JD (S) are contesting the Malegaon election together.
Initial trends also show that the AIMIM is ahead in one ward whereas the Congress candidates are leading in 02 wards.

The powerloom city in Nashik district went to polls on Wednesday, recording 59.52 per cent voter turnout.
Along with Malegaon, Bhiwandi-Nizampur and Panvel municipal corporations also went to the poll on Wednesday May 24. Counting of votes in all the three civic bodies will start at 10:00 am today, the election officer added.
In Malegaon, the main parties in the fray are the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) - Janata Dal (S) alliance, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Shiv Sena, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and a large number of independents.
Malegaon has a total of 21 wards represented each by 04 candidates. The current mayor is Ibrahim Seth belonging to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
The Congress had emerged as the single largest partyy winning 26 seats in the 2012 elections. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won 08 seats, Teesra Mahaz 19, Shiv Sena 11, Bhartia Janata Party (BJP) NONE, MNS 02 and others including independets were 11.
Teesra Mahaz led by former MLA Mufti Ismael later joined the NCP. But, the NCP was split and a faction led by former Mayor Abdul Malik Yunus Isa joined the AIMIM.
