Bhopal: In yet another shocking incident, farmers in Madhya Pradesh’ Tikamgarh district were allegedly baton charged and forced to strip down to their underwear by the local police on Wednesday.
The farmers had gathered outside the district collectorate and were trying to meet the collector with a list of their demands. However, failing to meet the collector or any other officials the protesting farmers lost their cool.
As the farmers' protest took a violent turn, police resorted to lathicharge and used water cannons and teargas to disperse the farmers. Some 25-30 farmers got injured in the clashes with the police, according to reports.
The farmers alleged that they were beaten up inside the lock-up and were forced to strip down to their underwear and sit inside for hours.
In the videos of the alleged incident, which have gone viral on social media, farmers are seen holding their clothes in their hands and coming out of the police station.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh while saying that his government won’t tolerate violent protests has asked for a report from the district administration on the allegations that the police forced the farmers to strip down.
The state Home Minister Bhupendra Singh on the other hand said that he had asked the concerned authorities to investigate if the farmers were forced to strip or if they did so, on their own, according to The Wire.
