Mohali: Mohali police while saying that the motive behind the murder of senior journalist KJ Singh and his mother was being investigated confirmed the double murder, and said the sribe was first stabbed and his throat was later slit.
Police said KJ Singh was first stabbed in the stomach as he opened the door to the assailant. The trail of blood led to the room where he was found dead. After that his throat was slit.
KJ Singh, a senior journalist, who had worked with the Indian Express, Tribune and TOI, was found dead along with his 92-year -old mother at their home in Punjab’s Mohali district on Saturday. The police suspect it a case of murder as journalist KJ Singh’s neck was found slit.
The Mohali police was informed about the murder by a visitor, who came to the journalist’s house at around 1 pm. The police said that his mother Gurcharan Kaur appeared to be strangulated to death.
The car of the journalist was also found missing while the police was investigating the crime scene.
When after repeated knocks at the door no one opened it, he suspected foul and managed to go inside. He was shocked when he saw KJ Singh lying in a pool of blood. He also found his mother lying unconscious.
After that, he immediately informed the police, which investigating the case further.
Singh, who was freelancing for a Canadian magazine, had a studio with recording equipment in the house. The police are yet to ascertain if anything is missing from the studio.
The police are scanning CCTV footage from a camera installed two houses away.
Singh is the third journalist to be killed in India in recent days after Gauri Lankesh (Bengaluru) and Shantanu Bhowmik (Tripura).
