Malegaon: A five-day festival with the theme “Made in Malegaon” was inaugurated by Maharashtra Minister Dada Saheb Bhuse on Friday - the day which also coincided with 69th Republic Day.
Others who were present on the occasion included Mayor of Malegaon Shaikh Rahseed, Deputy Mayor Sakharam Ghodke, Chairman of MMC Standing Committee Saleem Anwar, AIMIM Corportaor Khalid Yunus Isa, Congress Corporator Khalid Shaikh Rasheed and a host of local dignitaries and prominent figures.
Spearheaded by Malegaon Central MLA Asif Shaikh Rasheed, the five-day ‘Made in Malegaon’ festival is organized with an aim to display to the outside world the potential, talent and skill of people of Malegaon.
A total of 120 stalls are displaying textile products, food products and masala, apparels and handicrafts, ladies wear, cosmetics, herbals, perfumes, acrylic and glass art, home gymnasium, paintings, calligraphy work and gift items - all designed and produced by local artists and manufacturers.
“Besides being a pioneer in textile manufacturing, Malegaon also has a huge talent in other fields like food products and masala, handicrafts and glass art which are hidden from the outside world. With this festival, we intend to display and encourage the local talent”, Asif Shaikh Rasheed said.
Besides the stalls displaying more than 100 local products, the other feature of “Made in Malegaon” festival is educational and cultural programs and contests involving students.
Also part of the “Made in Malegaon” festival is a special lecture by renowned motivational speaker Mubarak Kapdi on Sunday January 27.
The organisers of "Made in Malegaon" have also shortlised 100 locals who will be awarded during the five-day festival in recognition of their contribution towards building Malegaon.
Asif Shaikh Rasheed’s “Made in Malegaon” festival comes two years after Malegaon Outer MLA and Maharashtra Minister Dada Bhuse in a program attended by the former had given a call to “Make in Malegaon".
“There are fabrics and sarees being sold in local and international markets that are manufactured by people of Malegaon. But, since the powerloom weavers in Malegaon do not have a brand name, the sellers are using their own name and selling these quality products earning handsome profits”, Dada Bhuse said invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India”.
