Mumbai: Heera Gold Managing Director and Founder President of Mahila Empowerment Party (MEP) Nowhera Shaikh was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police Friday.
Nowhera Shaikh was released on bail by Nampally Court Hyderabad on Wednesday. She was first arrested in New Delhi on October 15, 2018 and was later brought to Hyderabad on transit remand.
Nampally court in Hyderabad granted bail to Nowhera Shaikh on the surety of five crore rupees. It is claimed that Nowhera Shaikh's lawyers had themselves offered the surety of five crore rupees to prove that Heera Gold is stable and that the investors' money is safe.
Nowhera Shaikh is accused of duping investors of around Rs 300 crore. The companies in the Heera Group had floated several investment schemes claiming that they were Halal compliant and are in line with Islamic principles of finance, police said.
Speculations were rife that Nowhera Shaikh could be arrested by police of other states even after getting bail in Hyderabad as a number of complaints and FIRs have been lodged in many cities of various states.
In line with the expectations, Mumbai police arrested her soon after she was granted bail by Nampally court. She was produced before a Mumbai court Friday evening which remanded her in Police Custody till November 3, police said.
Police said a case was registered against Nowhera Shaikh and officials of Heera Gold Exim Ltd, Heera Retail Pvt Ltd, Heera Textiles and Heera Foodex here on October 23. Complaints are filed against her today in Prabhani, Maharashtra also.
During the hearing at Nampally court, Nowhera Shaikh's lawyers had alleged that she was arrested on false information and propaganda spread by her political rivals so that she could not field candidates in the upcoming Telangana assembly elections.
Nowhera Shaikh, just two days before her arrest in Delhi, had announced that the All India Mahila Empowerment Party (AIMEP) the party founded by her ahead of Karnataka Assembly elections 2018 will field candidates on all 119 seats of Telangana.
Nowhera Shaikh had fielded candidates on all 224 seats of Karnataka. Though she did not win a single seat, but her high profile election campaign had caught the eyes of voters and also the media.
