New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Thursday accused the Congress and its leadership of having an "understanding" and "secret pact" with the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and working towards making Narendra Modi Prime Minister for a second term.
“हम तो पहले से ही कह रहे थे कि इस बार कांग्रेस, मोदी जी को दोबारा पीएम बनाने पर काम कर रही है... [We’ve already said that the Congress is working towards making Narendra Modi the prime minister once again..]", senior AAP leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia wrote on Twitter.
Sisodia was responding to an interview of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in which she has allegedly said that Dr Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, was soft on terrorism. Dikshit however denied the allegations.
“I have seen some media is twisting my comments made in an interview. Here is what I said – it may seem to some people that Mr Modi is stronger on terror but I think this is a poll gimmick more than anything else..”, she wrote on Twitter.
Journalist Vir Sanghvi, who had interviewed Dikshit, to be broadcast on News18 this weekend, agreed with Dikshit.
“I did the interview in question. She is absolutely right. Let’s not take what she said out of context and twist it. You can see the whole interview on Virtuosity on @CNNnews18 this weekend", Sanghvi wrote on Twitter.
However, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal backed his deputy saying "something is indeed brewing between the Congress and the BJP".
"Comments made by Sheila ji are indeed shocking. Something is indeed brewing between the Congress and the BJP", Kejriwal wrote re-tweeting Sisodia's post.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wants to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the Congress. However, it is alleged that state leadership of the Congress party is against any tie-up with AAP in Delhi. On its part, AAP said BJP will be benefited if the two parties contest the general elections separately.
