Patna: Shatrughan SInha, BJP MP from Patna Sahib, Thursday criticised Narendra Modi for not holding a single press conference in his entire tenure as Prime Minister but said he would still like to extend his best wishes despite the latter's "looking London and talking Tokyo", attitude.
Launching a scathing attack on Narendra Modi, Sinha came out with a flurry of tweets and even said it was high time that "a new, better leadership" took over.
"Now that dates have been announced, Sir, ab toh kum se kum ek press conference kar dijiye. A free and fair session, not choreographed, researched or rehearsed and without the press known for Raag Darbari and Sarkari mindset. You shall go down in history as the only PM in a democratic world who has not had a single Q and A session during his tenure," Sinha wrote on the micro blogging site, Twitter.
"Don't you think it's high time & the right time, before the Govt changes, that a new, better leadership takes over. And you should come out with all your black, white & grey sides?", Sinha wrote in another tweet.
Shatrughan SInha also attacked Modi for having "announced 150 projects in UP, Benares and other parts of the country in the last week/month of your term".
"In the last week/month of your term, you have announced 150 projects in UP, Benares & other parts of the country. Technically speaking it may not be against the code of conduct, but certainly it seems to be too little and too late ‘jumlas'. Still, wishing you all the best inspite of your looking London and talking Tokyo attitude and your shoot and scoot behavior. Jai Hind !" Sinha said in his final tweet.
Shatrughan Sinha, who was a union minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet, is at odds with the BJP leadership after being ignored for campaigning in the 2015 Bihar assembly polls, and has been taking potshots at the prime minister and BJP president Amit Shah on issues like demonetisation and crises in institutions like the CBI and RBI.
Sinha had in the last week mocked the claim by Nitish Kumar and some other leaders of the coalition of winning all the 40 Lok Sabha seats of Bihar as "wishful thinking meant to keep the morale of their party cadres high".
"They should have at least left my Patna Saheb seat from boastful claim of 40 out of 40 seats in Bihar," he said.
Indications are that Sahtrughan Sinha could be denied BJP ticket this time and he might contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as candidate of alliance comprising the RJD, Congress, RLSP and HAM. [With PTI inputs.]
