Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and sitting MP from Hyderabad, on Monday after filing nomination papers for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections exuded confidence that he will win the Old City parliamentary seat once again.
"Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency has been the voice of India's impoverished, oppressed and weak. Inshallah, it will continue to be so," Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted after filing the papers.
Asaduddin Owaisi, who has been awarded 'Sansad Ratna award 2014', is continuously winning the Parliamentary elections from Hyderabad since 2004. His father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, represented the Muslim dominated seat in Telangana consecutively for six terms since 1984.
Asaduddin Owaisi was also among the best performing parliamentarians in 2015. Owaisi, known for fiery speeches, was also among top performers in the monsoon session of the parliament in 2013 with 1042 questions. He also participated in 38 debates.
Polling for the 2019 General Elections in Hyderabad and 16 other seats in Telangana will be held on April 11, 2019. The counting of votes will be done on May 23. The results will also be declared on the same day.
The Congress and the BJP are yet to name their candidates for this constituency.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee had earlier recommended to the party central leadership to field Mohammad Azharuddin, among others, in Hyderabad constituency. But, party sources have indicated that the former Indian cricket captain is not keen to contest from Hyderabad.
Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM had won 07 seats in the December 2018 Assembly elections and is supporting the ruling TRS in the state. The two parties have also announced to form an alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Asaduddin Owaisi has also announced to campaign for the TRS candidates in Telangana.
Asaduddin Owaisi has also formed Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi with Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar in Maharashtra. Ambedkar has earlier announced that the aghadi will contest the 2019 Parliament elections on all 48 seats of the state.
