Maharashtra Universities Final Exam News Latest

Mumbai: Maharashtra government has formed a six-member committee to explore various options to conduct the final exams in all 20 universities of the state postponed due to corona virus lockdown.

This was revealed to Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari by State Higher Education Minister Uday Samant Tuesday during a video conferencing with the Vice-Chancellors of all the 20 universities of the state including Mumbai University, Savitribai Phule Pune University and others.

"A six-member panel - comprising vice-chancellors of Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur and SNDT universities, and directors of higher and technical education - has been formed to chalk out multiple plans to conduct final exams", Samant revealed during the meeting, according to a report by The Times of India.

As Plan A, if the lockdown is lifted in April, vice-chancellors have been told to figure out ways to hold exams from mid-May.

As Plan B, if the lockdown goes on, they have been told to explore possibilities of holding exams in smaller groups later. Besides, they have been told to examine other options, the minister said during the meeting.

On Monday, Uday Samant had also held a meeting with the vice chancellors and asked them to release a fresh exam schedule, as plan B for whenever the lockdown is lifted.

Keeping in mind the pending curriculum, minister Uday Samant also inquired about the various techniques adopted by departments and institutes to ensure completion of the portion.

“We put together a set of mobile and computer applications that could be used by all polytechnic and technical institutes in order to ensure that students are not at loss and their education is not affected", said Abhay Wagh, director, state Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).

"The application also checks attendance of teachers and teaching content everyday for transparency purposes,” he said.

Earlier, the association of teachers of Mumbai university and colleges urged the vice chancellor to promote the first and second year students to the next session without exams.
