The Hague: After Italy, Spain and France, The Netherlands became another Covid-19 hotspot in Europe, with its toll crossing 350 and cases climbing to over 6,000, reports said.
Authorities confirmed 80 more virus-related deaths in the country during the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 356 while 852 fresh cases took the national total to 6,412, the BBC reported.
Of the total 6,412 Coronavirus positive cases in Holland, 6,053 are active - 5,471 (about 90%) are in mild condition whereas the rest 582 are in serious anc critical condition.
North Brabant has the highest number of coronavirus infections i.e. 1,739 positive tests. South Holland has the second highest number of positive tests 758 followed by North Holland 740.
The Netherlands' Health Ministry noted that the actual number of infections will be higher because not everyone has been tested.
The Netherlands had on Moday announced extra measures to curb the spread of corona virus in addition to those already in place. The new measures include the closure of all food and drink establishments, excluding supermarkets, the closure of schools and all fitness clubs and saunas. The government has also restricted visit to nursing homes.
The new measures also include the ban of all social gatherings until June 1, with the 100-people limit no longer being valid, 1.5 metres of distance to be kept, failure to adhere can result in a fine, and a maximum of three visitors in a house if the 1.5-metre distance rule can be kept, amongst other things, according to IamExpat.
The virus origintaed from China's Wuhan. But, Italy became the worst affected country in the world with 6,820 coronavirus related deaths and 69,176 Covid-19 infections.
On the other hand, more than 560 people have died of Coronavirus in France. The country had reported 112 in just 24 hours Monday.
Spain on Sunday reported 394 new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the national total to 1,720 and propelling it beyond Iran to the third in the list of most fatalities.
As many as 19,794 people in more than 100 countries have died worldwide due to Coronavirus and 441,187 people have been tested positive for the deadly virus.
