Mumbai: In a highly objectionable speech delivered in the charged atmosphere, Waris Pathan, the National Spokesperson of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and former MLA from Byculla Mumbai, purportedly threatened Hindus of the country.
What's worse, AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi was sitting on the stage when Pathan made the objectionable comments, as per some of videos shared on social media.
Aurangabad MP Imtiyaz Jaleel is also seen sitting next to Asauddin Owaisi as Waris Pathan delivered the speech that could be used to demonise the Muslims.
"They tell us that we have kept our women in the forefront. I want to tell these people, so far only the lionesses have come out and you are already sweating. Just imagine, what would happen if all of us come together", Pathan said addressing a public meeting in Gulbarga.
"We are just 15 crore but can be a bigger force than the 100 crore majority population," he said without naming anyone.
The video containing part of the controversial remarks of Waris Pathan's speech is widely shared on the social media. AIMIM MPs Asaduddin Owaisi and Imtiyaz Jaleel are also seen sitting in one of such videos viral on Twitter.
Owaisi has so far not disassociated himself from the controversial speech.
Waris Pathan's speech has angered many from his own constituency Byculla from where he lost the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly election.
"Only a fool and politically naive or a BJP agent can make such statements in the present situation prevailing in the country", Asif Khan, a Byculla resident, said.
Following Pathan's Gulbarga speech, the speech of Akbaruddin Owaisi, in which he allegedly made somewhat similar remarks, is also being shared. Akbaruddin Owaisi, MLA and AIMIM House Leader in Telangana, is younger brother of Asaduddin Owaisi.
Though Asaduddin Owaisi, who is very quick to respond to all kinds of happenings in the country, has so far not spoken a word on Pathan's objectionable comments, but the latter himself has issued a clarification.
"I hereby wish to state that the media reports on TV channels showing my statement made in the public meeting at Gulbarga five days back has totally been quoted out of context", Waris Oathan said in a statement released on Twitter.
"I hereby wish to reiterate that I can never say anything intentionally or unintentionally that hurts the sentiments of any caste, community or gender", he said.
"I am a proud Indian and respect the plurality of this country", he added.
