Gandhinagar: With the highest daily spike of 687 cases, Gujarat's total coronavirus cases shot up to 34,686, even as its total death toll due to the disease climbed up to 1,906 on Friday due to 19 more casualties.
The state now has 7,839 active cases, of which the condition of 7,778 is stable, whereas 61 critical patients are still on ventilators.
It is the seventh day when more than 600 new cases were detected, with each day registering a new record. With an average of 647 cases daily, the state has registered 4,528 positive cases in this week.
On Friday, Surat equalled hotspot Ahmedabad with 204 new cases. Surat is now emerging as the new hotspot in the state whereas Ahmedabad's cases are on a decline.
Surat and Ahmedabad were followed by Vadodara at 62 cases, Junagadh 26, Bhavnagar 21, Gandhinagar 16, Kheda and Surendranagar 14 each, Jamnagar, Bharuch and Panchmahals 13 each, Patan 11, Rajkot 10, Anand 9, Banaskantha 8, Mahisagar 7, Valsad and Navsari 6 each, Sabarkantha, Mahesana and Kutch 5 each, Narmada and Tapi 3 each, Botad and Morbi 2 each and Aravalli, Gir-Somnath, Dahod, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Porbandar one new case.
The number of casualties which had been over 30 for almost entire June has now come down around 20. On Friday, 19 new corona casualties were recorded, including Ahmedabad's highest 10, Surat five, Kheda two, and a patient in Panchmahals.
Total corona deaths in Ahmedabad are 1,469, with 173 deaths in Surat, 53 in Vadodara, 31 in Gandhinagar, 17 each in Aravalli and Patan, 16 in Panchmahals, 13 each in Bhavnagar and Anand, 12 in Mehsana, 11 in Banaskantha, and 10 each in Bharuch and Kheda.
The death toll rate of Ahmedabad -- which used to be around 81% of the state's total toll -- is gradually moving down. On Friday, it came down to 77.07%. Gujarat has one of the highest corona mortality rate of 5.49% in the country.
On Friday, health authorities carried out 7,425 more RT-PCR tests taking the total to 3,95,873 such tests in Gujarat. Of these, 3,61,187 tested negative.
A total of 340 more patients were discharged, taking the total cured patients to 24,941.
As many as 2,56,027 persons are quarantined in the state, including 2,52,986 in home quarantine and 3,041 in government facilities.
