Chennai: As many as 1,562 persons tested positive for coronavirus over the past 24 hours in Tamil Nadu, the state Health Department said on Monday.
In a statement issued here, the Health Department said that the new cases take the tally to 33,229 persons.
Seventeen Covid-19 patients died on Monday, taking the death toll to 286.
A total of 528 persons were discharged from various hospitals in the state. The total number of Covid-19 cured persons in the state stands at 17,527.
The number of active cases including in the isolation centres is at 15,413.
Chennai saw the highest number of infections at 1,149 taking the total tally to 23,298.
On Monday 14,982 samples were tested taking the total to 6.07 lakh. Testing of 514 samples are under process.
The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 went up to 1,765.
