Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is celebrating its centenary year with significant jump in rankings as the British ranking agency, Times Higher Education (THE) has placed AMU at the second position among Indian universities in the Physical Sciences category, excluding the premier Indian technology institutes.

Physical Sciences in AMU scored 50.7 in the citation category and 11.7 in research category.

Both parameters witnessed a significant rise since 2019. AMU is placed above Banaras Hindu University, Jadavpur University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and University of Delhi on the basis of different variables that measure academics, citations, international collaboration and publications.

"The position of AMU in the rankings is awe- inspiring. It shows a continued and growing ability of AMU to vie among the world's excellent centres of learning," said the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor.

Congratulating the Deans, Chairmen and supporting staff of the concerned departments, Prof Mansoor emphasized that it is a proud moment which is due to the sustained efforts of faculty members and the quality research work being done in the University.

The exceptional success has brought pride to the whole university fraternity, added the Vice Chancellor.

These rankings serve as an indicator of high-quality research carried out in AMU, said Prof M Salim Beg, Chairman, Ranking Committee.
