Tamil Nadu Class 10 SSLC Exam 2020: AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu has finally decided to cancel the Class 10 SSLC exam 2020 and promote students without the board exam.
The Tamil Nadu board had earlier postponed the 2020 SSLC exams due to Coronavirus lockdown clamped by Modi government in New Delhi.
As per the revised schedule, TN Class 10 SSLC exam was supposed to start from June 15. Over nine lakh students from different districts of the state had registered for the exam planned at 12,690 centres.
The June 2020 exam however now stands cancelled and all the students will be promoted. The score of these students will be calculated based on quarterly and half yearly exams.
"Students would get 80% weightage for half yearly and quarterly exam marks and 20% weightage for attendance," Chief Minister K Palaniswami said in a statement.
Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Grade Teachers Association had filed a petition in Madras High Court seeking cancellation of the TN Class 10 exams. Opposition parties like DMK, MDMK and others have asked the government not to hold the exams on June 15 in the wake of rising number of Coronavirus cases in the state.
During the hearing on the petition, Madras High Court had questioned the government's decision to hold the exams when the coronavirus infection is on the rise.
The court also said it cannot allow the government to risk the lives of over nine lakh students who will be writing the exams, adding that it is not like opening the liquor shops.
