New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday cancelled Class 12th and Class 10th board exams scheduled between March 19 to 31, 2020 in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak.
The decision to postpone the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams has been taken as a precautionary measure and in compliance with the instructions received from Secretary Department of Education, Government of India.
"All ongoing examinations of the board of classes 10 and 12, being held in examination centres in India and abroad, and scheduled between March 19, 2020 to March 31, 2020 (both dates inclusive), shall be rescheduled after March 31, 2020", the CBSE said in an official notification released late in the evening Wednesday.
The new datesheet of the exams that are postponed will be announced soon.
"Rescheduled dates will be communicated by the board to all its stakeholders by March 31 after re-assessment of the situation," the board said.
The CBSE had earlier cancelled the 10th and 12th board exams in North East Delhi because of the riots.
The decision will also affect the examination schedule for candidates in northeast Delhi who could not appear in exams due to violence in the region. The board added that during this period, the evaluation process will also remain suspended.
The CBSE has earlier said the class 10th and class 12th result will be declared in time. However, after the latest decision to cancel all the exams, it is most likely that the CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exam result 2020 will also be delayed.
The CBSE had in 2019 decalred the board exam results in the last week of May.
A number of universities and institutions had earlier suspended classes and postponed the exams in the wake of Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.
Of the total 152 confirmed Coronavirus cases reported from India, 14 people have been cured and discharged from the hospital while three lost their lives.
