New Delhi: As many as 276 Indians abroad have been tested positive for Coronavirus. They also include 255 Indians in Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in Lok Sabha Wednesday.
In a written reply submitted in the Lok Sabha - the lower house of the Indian Parlaiment, the Ministry said among the 276 Indians infected with Coronavirus abroad are 255 in Iran, 12 in UAE, 5 in Italy, and 1 each in Hong Kong, Kuwait, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, the government on Wednesday evacuated another batch of 205 Indians from Iran, where 988 people have died due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A flight of the Mahan Air landed in New Delhi this morning with Indian passengers, mostly Shia pilgrims from Ladakh who were stranded in Iran, official sources said. Of those who returned, 115 are male, 85 female, four children and one infant. Some of them are Non Resident Indians as well.
So far 591 Indians have been evacuated from Iran. Sources said, all the passengers were sent to a quarantine facility of the Indian Army in Jaisalmer.
Coronavirus which started from China's Wuhan in February 2020 has spread to more than 143 countries. Italy and Iran are the worst affected countries after China.
As many as 8,400 people have died because of the virus and more than 200,000 people across the world are reported to have been infected by Covid-19. Covid-19 is the name given by WHO to identify Coronavirus.
India has so far recorded 03 Cornavirus related deaths. Maharashtra is the worst affected state in India. The government in the state has announced various measures to control the Coronavirus outbreak.
According to reports, an Indian Army soldier in Ladakh has also tested positive for Coronavirus. The soldier's family said he has been isolated to avoid further spread of the novel corona virus.
On the other hand, an Army officer attached to the College of Military Engineering in Pune has been asked to self-quarantine after he showed symptoms of flu, sources said on Wednesday.
In Lucknow, a resident doctor at Lucknow's King George Medical University has also tested positive for coronavirus, the hospital spokesperson said on Wednesday.
