Makkah: The Ministry of Haj and Umrah Saudi Arabia has announced Visa Free Umrah for the pilgrims from the United States (U.S.), United Kingdom (U.K.) and the European Union (EU).
Unlike Hajj which is performed once in a year, Umrah, known as lesser Hajj, can be performed any time.
The Pilgrims from Europe, U.S. and U.K. can travel to Makkah and perform Umrah provided they have permanent residency without applying for Umrah Visa in advance, the Ministry said.
The announcement of Visa Free Umrah for US, UK and EU comes less than one month before Ramadan 2024.
While Muslims from around the world throng to Makkah to perform Umrah throughout the year, the Holy Month of Ramadan is special when Pilgrims are more eager for the lesser Hajj.
The Holy Month of Fasting this year starts either from March 11 or 12, 2024 based on the citing of the Ramadan 2024 Moon.
Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has in September 2022 announced Visa on Arrival facility for the Muslims visiting Makkah for Umrah.
The Saudi Visa on arrival service is available for a number of countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
Also, the GCC citizens, including nationals from Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, can enter Saudi Arabia visa-free and do not need to apply for a Saudi transit visa.
In a mover to further simplify Umrah travels to Makkah, Saudia, the flag carrier of the Kingdom, has started offering Transit Visa along with ticket booking since January 2023.
Umrah visitors can arrange their travel either through the Nusk app or complete the fomalities upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.
